I've been dubbed Miss Construction Pa!
So I just got around to fixing a large paper jam in my fax machine. It took me awhile to 1. recognize it existed, and 2. care enough to take the time to disassemble the necessary parts to fix it. I got around to it today, because I'm procrastinating. It seemed to be a better option than typing up September's meeting minutes for my co-workers.
I was off "sick" from work yesterday, so I had a lot to catch up on when I got to work today. I had six messages! That's a lot for good old Shippensburg.
Ok, so let's talk about my weekend. Friday was relatively uneventful, I stopped by Grantham to get some more of my stuff packed up and ready for the move. I can't really think of what Chris and I did later on...Oh, we ordered pizza and calzones from a nearby shop, and watched something, I think. I was stressed emotionally, after having a conversation with a friend that left me pretty upset. I didn't sleep well Friday night, and had to get up bright and early to start the big move! I made breakfast (scrambled eggs, toast, hash browns, bacon, and kiwi) for Dan and Chris, and then we went to get the truck.
We did Dan's apartment first. Dan lived on the second floor of his apartment complex, so the constant stairs were ridiculously tiring. Chris was sore and stiff already from working on his house in Lebanon for a week, and 3/4 of the way through his move, Dan sprained his ankle. It quickly became a nightmare. Thankfully, Hierald and Kristen showed up to help. Dan has a lot of stuff! We finally get all of his stuff on the truck (it barely fit!) and drive to his new place on Chestnut street. There, we unload it to his new apartment, ALSO on the second floor. Dan can't really help that much at this point, so its basically Hierald, Kristen, and I doing the heavy stuff up the stairs.
I'm about ready to die at this point, and the kicker is...we're only half done.
Grantham is next. Thankfully I had all my stuff boxed up and ready to transport easily. Also, Josh and some of his friends were around to help a little, which was so great. My stuff got on the truck in record time. Chris and I drove to his house and unloaded the truck (the last leg of this day) entirely by ourselves. It was around 6 pm at this point, and we hadn't stopped for lunch or even much of a break. It was so hot on Saturday too. I swear I sweated more that day then I ever had in my entire life. I am so glad it's over. Moving from 10:30 am till 6:00 pm straight, is not my idea of fun. :)
When I got out of the shower, I saw that Chris had ordered sushi rolls for dinner. We also opened a bottle of Champagne to celebrate the move. It was very cute, and a nice way to end the day.
Sunday, we were as sore as anything. The absolute last thing either of us wanted to do was to go to Lebanon and tear down walls and ceilings, but that was exactly what we did. Thankfully we had delicious bagels that morning, because again, we didn't eat again till dinner. We worked hard on the house. Chris was pulling down the ceilings with a crowbar, and I was shoveling plaster into trashcans, and pulling down wood paneling. It was hard to breathe because we were both wearing masks. Although I would not want to do that kind of work every day, it is fun to do some manual labor. I like learning about how to demolish and repair things. The end result is usually pretty rewarding too. We filled up an industrial-sized dumpster with paneling, wooden slats, concrete, carpet, and plaster. The upstairs is looking pretty good, and is almost ready for a construction team to come in and put up new ceilings and walls. I think we did a pretty darn good job.
I am amazed how well we both handled the weekend. One day he was helping me with labor-intensive work, and the next day I was helping him. We both realized how much we appreciated the other.
We both took yesterday off work, because obviously we were exhausted, and needed a break. It was a lovely day. We had a very lazy morning, which was well-deserved. Then we had lunch at Duke's, overlooking the river. After that, we went to Ashcombes' nursery to get gourds and indian corn for fall decorating purposes. We also picked up some spaghetti squash (so delicious!) and a funny looking pumpkin. Then, we went to WEGMANS!!!! I use capital letters and exclamation points because I was highly impressed. I practically needed a tour guide to find my way around; the store is truly massive. Their produce and prepared foods sections alone were larger than some grocery stores! We picked up some necessities while there, but spent most of the trip oohing and ahhing over the culinary wonders we glimpsed. Too bad it's all the way over on the Carlisle Pike. A little too far to go for normal shopping trips.
After that, we went home, unloaded, and relaxed some more. We watched "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?" later on, and I'm still not sure how I felt about the movie. It was intriguing, for sure. We also drank some great wine that we had bought the weekend before at King of Prussia. I highly recommend Clover Hill Vineyards, its our favorite.
And that, I believe, brings us up to today. I do believe I should get back to work.
