Can I cut off my ears now?

There seems to be one interesting, and very disturbing aspect of my job.

My clients trust me. A lot.

Now this is great in theory, right? A case manager's biggest way to help their clients is through the relationship that forms between them. That trust allows CMs to learn the "real story" behind what you might be hearing from a client. It allows us to be able to ask tough questions, about topics that can be very personal. It allows us to get to know the client, and see what may be hidden beneath the surface.

This trust goes both ways. By helping clients reach success, following through, and simply caring about them, CMs can earn the trust of the client. The client feels comfortable telling them their life stories - ususally filled with pain, mistakes, hurt. This new level of intimacy between CMs and clients is very important, and only when established will much of the "real work" get done.

However, this "trust and intimacy" between CM and client can go too far. Like today.

Hearing about client's sex lives would be in this category for me.

Yeah. Two separate, unrelated clients. Today. Apparently last night was a good night for some Carlisle and Shippensburg residents. Must have been something in the air...

And I give myself mad props for not exploding into laughter, or vomit, right on the spot, by the way. Ah, the mental images...
